Did anyone else?

Thank you for contacting me about H.R. 5036, the Emergency Assistance for Secure Elections Act of 2008. I appreciate hearing from you.

Representative Rush Holt (NJ-12) introduced H.R. 5036 on January 28, 2008. This legislation seeks to allow state and local jurisdictions to opt-in to receive reimbursements from the federal government if they convert to a paper ballot voting system, offer emergency paper ballots, and/or conduct audits by hand counts. This bill has been referred to the Committee on House Administration and the House Committee on Science and Technology.

I believe our current election system must be carefully reviewed. We must work together to remove voter fraud, clarify and simplify voting methods, and improve technology to ensure that each vote is counted.

Several bills have been introduced in the 110th Congress to address issues raised about the security of direct recording electronic (DRE) voting machines. Touch screen and other DREs using computer-style displays are arguably the most versatile and voter-friendly of any current voting system. However, there is currently some controversy about how secure DREs are from tampering by voters, election personnel, Internet "hackers," or even manufacturers. Personally, I am glad that Michigan went with the paper ballot system using scanning technology to count the votes; enabling us to still have a paper record.

Thank you again for contacting me with your concerns. I consider it an honor and privilege to represent you in Washington, D.C. If I can be of any assistance with a federal agency or if you have any federal issues that you would like to express concerns on, please contact me.

Respectfully yours,

Tim Walberg

Member of CongressAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32534894.post-26136507264886578732008-02-25T14:22:00.000-05:002008-02-25T14:22:00.000-05:00From the above cited article“He is a tireless camp...From the above cited article

“He is a tireless campaigner,” added Melinn, who covers Schauer in the state Senate. “If Mark Schauer can’t beat Walberg, then Tim Walberg is an incumbent for life.”

This is the same thing they said about Joe Schwarz. Only problem is that the GOP base believed it and didn't show up for Joe in the primary. I don't think the Dem base will make the same mistake. They will show up and elect Schauer.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32534894.post-13031146810493269142008-02-25T14:19:00.000-05:002008-02-25T14:19:00.000-05:00Tim Walberg and Mark Schauer race made the latest ...Tim Walberg and Mark Schauer race made the latest Congressional Quarterly.

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=5&docID=news-000002675937Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
